On 20 February 2020, Wheelabrator announced that they were no longer going to proceed with the project to build a waste-to-energy incinerator between Longparish and Barton Stacey. This is fantastic news for both villages and the wider community of Test Valley.

The Longparish Parish Council would like to thank the whole community for their support and in particular, the Keep Test Valley Beautiful campaign group who have worked so hard to help the community oppose this project. We would also like to thank the councillors, politicians, and Test Valley Borough Council for their considerable input.

The whole question of incinerators is still on the agenda, and as a community we must look to ways to reduce our own waste, so that the need for incinerators is reduced, and other communities don’t have to face what we have just been through over the last year.
